The goals have flowed for you at Old Trafford - but what makes you such a lethal finisher? "The hunger and desire to be the best no matter what. I feel you are always striving to prove a point to people (a point to yourself in a way), that you can score goals on a consistent basis. I have good awareness and a pretty good turn of speed, but it's the hunger and determination that sets you apart from other players.
"When I came to England I had a pretty good record in Holland, but after the knee injury I think people wondered whether I would be the same player. I have always had tremendous faith in my ability and I have always had supportive people around me. And if you want something enough, no matter how hard you have to work, if you're prepared to give everything, you can climb mountains."
Your form has been nothing short of sensational and your goals have undoubtedly revived United's championship hopes. Is there more to come from you? "The fact that I have scored, what?, 25 goals so far, has not put me on cloud nine and made me any less hungry to go on from here. I know the manager has said good things about me. But this is only the start. I am happy with what I have achieved so far, don't get me wrong, but I am not the finished article by a long way, I am only going to get better.
"There are elements of my game I am working extremely hard on to improve. I have to become better when I have the ball and sometimes my distribution could be better. That is why I get so frustrated when something goes wrong in a match. I want to get stronger, keep and control the ball longer, so other players can join me up front. If I do those things right all the time, than I will consider myself a top-class striker. But I still have some time to go before I reach that point.''
Nonetheless, you must be pleased with the Premiership record of goals in successive games? "It's a nice record to have, particularly in my first season, and makes me feel very proud. I have a lovely trophy from Barclaycard to signify the record and it takes pride of place in my home. But though individual honours are great they count for nothing if the end product, the goals you score, don't win the team anything.
"If Manchester United fail to win a trophy this season it would mean nothing to me. I came to the club to win the championship and to do well in Europe. I'm slightly down about us going out of the FA Cup because, as a boy, like many Dutch boys, I watched the FA Cup on TV and always had a dream of one day playing in the final. But that's not to be and we must now turn our attention to the other competitions."
Lots of people were writing United off not so long ago - what has been responsible for the transformation of your league form? "Great players don't become poor overnight and sometimes you just go through bad spells - it happens in life. I don't think there was any contributing factor, just the fact that we wanted to go out and win games and prove people wrong. When you're not playing well, it's easy to lose games because the confidence goes. But in the same way, when you're winning, it flows through the team. The luck returns and the points start to pile up."
You seem to have a great deal of admiration for your team-mates? "When I arrived, I was in such awe of everyone I thought about getting out the autograph book. David Beckham is a tremendous star and he just leaves me gobsmacked in training. Sometimes I just stand there with my mouth open - although it's not polite to do so.
"Roy Keane is another. His mental strength is extraordinary and on the field he has so much energy and drive. He hates to lose games and he wants to win everything, every game, every competition - losing doesn't sit well with Keane, but that's what makes him such a great player.
"But if there is one player I really enjoy working with it's Ryan Giggs. I think he is probably one of the most complete players I have ever worked with, there are few flaws in his game. He can pass, dribble, score goals and put in great crosses. He has vision, awareness and all the other attributes that make a great player a superstar. People talk about the value of players, but in my mind he's priceless."
