Ruud scores again |
Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy each scored to lead Manchester United over Newcastle, 2-0, in the English Premier League on Sunday at St. James' Park.
The Red Devils have not surrendered a goal now in their first five games this season, including two Champions League qualifying matches.
On the other hand, Newcastle has failed to score in its first four league outings of the campaign.
Rooney opened up the scoring in the 66th minute when he followed up a long shot taken by Van der Sar.
Van Nistelrooy sealed the victory with a goal down low in extra time.
Striker Alberto Luque made his Newcastle debut, but it still wasn't enough for Graeme Souness' crew. Luque did appear to find the back of the net, but the goal was pulled out due to a offsides call.
In the league's only other game on Sunday, Charlton improved to 3-0 with a 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Riverside. Dennis Rommedahl, Chris Perry and Darren Bent all scored in the contest.
