Ferguson: Ruud one of the best
Monday, February 06, 2006
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of the best goalscorers the club has ever had.
The Dutchman is just three goals away from becoming only the seventh player to reach 150 goals in a United shirt.
Past players to achieve the landmark include Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best and Ferguson already believes van Nistelrooy can be classed in the same bracket as some of United's best players.
'Ruud's ability to create space in the box is incredible, and the great thing is he still has years in front of him,' Ferguson said.
'Given the way defences and organisation have improved, and the speed the game is played at now, 150 goals is an incredible achievement.'
Van Nistelrooy came off the bench to score twice in the space of five minutes against Blackburn on Wednesday to prove his worth to the team, which were already 4-1 down when he entered the action.
