Ruud backs Rooney for award

RUUD van Nistelrooy has backed Wayne Rooney to lift the PFA Player of the Year award.
United's Dutch marksman was the last Old Trafford player to win the award when he scooped the prize in 2002 after hitting 36 goals.
He entered the Reds Hall of Fame of previous winners when he completed a hat trick of successes at the start of the 21st Century for the club. Van Nistelrooy followed on from Roy Keane (2001) and Teddy Sheringham (2000) who lifted the coveted award voted for by their fellow professionals.
Two other Reds stars have won the personal PFA accolade with Gary Pallister successful in 1992 and Mark Hughes winning it twice in 1989 and `91.
Now 17-goal Rooney is on a six-strong short-list for this season's prize.
