Ruud disappointed with United's season
Sunday, May 07, 2006
Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted he has been greatly disappointed by United's season despite winning the League Cup.
United's failure to challenge Chealsea for the Premier League title and exit from the Champions Leage and FA Cup has cast a shadow in United's season.
"There is still a massive part of the season to complete because second place is important to us," Ruud told MUTV.
"But looking back, this season has been disappointing overall.
"Everyone knows expectations at this club are high but that is something we have to deal with. We have had to deal with it over the last couple of years and we have to do so again."
United has to finish second in order to qualify automatically for the Champions League. United has to match Liverpool's result on the final match of the season.
Ruud believes United are just as good as the Premier League Champions but they will look back at the Sunderland and Middlesborough games which they ended up in goaless draws, as poor games which hurt their season.
"The Sunderland and Middlesbrough performances were both disappointing," Ruud said.
"We have had two goalless draws in a row at home now, so we have to do better against Charlton and make sure we get those three points."
In the final match of the season, United will play Charlton at home and Liverpool will play Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
