Ruud's future at Manchester United was in major doubt after he stormed out of Old Trafford 3 hours before the Charlton match.

It was reported that Ruud drove home after finding out he was left out of the squad against Charlton.

A club statement reported : "We can confirm Ruud van Nistelrooy has gone home. "

The club will be making no further comment as we are concentrating on today's game."

Ruud's United career was rumoured to be coming to an end after Sir Alex dropped him from the starting lineup for the Carling Cup final.

When quizzed about recent Ruud incidents, Sir Alex replied : " All I can say is that there have been a couple of incidents in training this week that concerned me in terms of the team spirit in the club"

"It was such an important game, with us needing to finish second, and we wanted everyone together.

In that situation, I felt Ruud should stay out.

"Thats all there is to say at the moment. I will be discussing this with the club directors tomorrow and Tuesday."
