Ruud's strike sends Holland through
Friday, June 16, 2006
Ruud van Nistelrooy scored his first World Cup 2006 goal to steer Holland into the knockout stages.
Ruud's goal came in the 26th minute when he slotted home Arjen Robben's superb reverse pass.
Ivory Coast Bakari Kone pulled one back in the second half with a fantastic strike past Edwin van der Sar.
Though the Africans dominated the second half, Holland always kept Ivory Coast at bay.
Robin van Persie scored Holland's opening goal in the 23rd minute through a brilliant freekick.
