Ruud brace wins it for Real
Friday, August 25, 2006
Ruud Van Nistelrooy made his mark in the Bernabéu this evening. His two fantastic goals were enough for Real Madrid to win the Santiago Bernabéu Trophy in the game that has seen the debut of Fabio Capello’s team in their home stadium.
The Whites played a great first half, during which they could have hammered Anderlecht.
It was a luxurious debut for the 2006/07 Real Madrid: new President, new coach and new players were making their first appearance in the Santiago Bernabéu. Fabio Capello didn’t skimp on showing the crowd the novelties of his system.
In fact, we even dare say that the first eleven players to step onto the field tonight will essentially be the starting team for most of the games this season. The results show a very promising future for the Whites.
Belgian side Anderlecht were chosen as rivals for the occasion. They are a team trying to settle their superiority in their home country’s League, but they are also a side that brings back some unforgettable memories to older Real Madrid fans. It was against Anderlecht that Real Madrid forged their legend of turnarounds after winning a UEFA match against them 6-1.
The Belgians didn’t concede half a dozen goals, but nevertheless were close to conceding a good number during a first half in which Real Madrid had many opportunities to score.
