Real Madrid made a poor start to the season when they played a 0-0 draw with Villarreal at the Bernabeu on Sunday.
Real Madrid played well in defence but lacked creativity in attack and the team was booed at the final whistle.
Real had the chance to take the lead early in the first half when Antonio Cassano created a superb cross but Ruud had diffculty converting the shot.
Cassano nearly put Real in front few minutes later when he met Michel Salgado's cross at the near post but his header went just wide.
Real almost took the lead nearing half-time from a corner kick.
Shortly into the second half, Ruud had a chance to score his first Real Madrid goal after a great pass from David Beckham. However Ruud blasted the shot over the bar.
Van Nistelrooy came close when he raced into the penalty area and fired a low grounder, but his shot went wide of the target.
With the scoreline at 0-0, Fabio Capello brought on Robinho for Beckham.
Robinho made immediate impact
with a great pass into the area but no Real Madrid players were there to convert the chance.
