Ruud back in Dutch squad for friendly match
Sunday, August 19, 2007
Ruud van Nistelrooy was recalled to the Netherlands squad on Friday for the first time since falling out with coach Marco van Basten at last year's World Cup.
The Real Madrid striker was named in a 20-man squad to play Switzerland in a friendly Wednesday in Geneva.
Van Nistelrooy, who has scored 28 goals in 54 internationals, has not played for the Netherlands since Van Basten left him on the bench in a 1-0 round-of-16 defeat to Portugal at the World Cup in Germany.
Problems with other Dutch players scoring and Van Nistelrooy's strong form for Madrid last season combined to force a reconciliation.
Also back in the Netherlands squad after a long absence through injury is winger Robin van Persie, but winger Arjen Robben was not named as he is still recovering from a knee injury.
