Ruud set to stay at Real
Saturday, November 24, 2007
Ruud van Nistelrooy is close to signing a two-year contract extension with Real Madrid, according to reports from Spain.
The Dutch striker has impressed during his 16-month stay in the Spanish capital, and was the Primera Liga's top scorer last term.
Although the former Manchester United player has the option of another year when his contract at the Bernabau expires at the end of this season, his agent Roger Linse admitted a longer agreement would be welcome.
"Madrid already know what Ruud wants," Linse told Spanish newspaper, Marca.
"Hopefully he will stay for many years because van Nistelrooy is at the best moment of his career and he would like to retire in Madrid.
"I believe that Spanish football is good for him. It is a more offensive game and he has adapted well.
"Those who thought he would not succeed in Madrid have been mistaken."
Sources in Spain claim that an agreement, which could tie van Nistelrooy to Real until 2010, could be reached within days.
