Ruud Van Nistelrooy believes Cristiano Ronaldo is well on course to become the greatest player in the world.

A training ground bust-up with the Portuguese led to Van Nistelrooy being axed for United's final game of the 2005/06 season, with his £11m summer departure to Real Madrid following soon afterwards.

But the Dutchman has put the feuds behind him to acknowledge the quality of the United winger, insisting he "holds no grudges."

Talking in the latest edition of Inside United magazine, Van Nistelrooy said: “Ronaldo’s improvement has been incredible since then. He is on a par with Kaka and Lionel Messi. But if he carries on like this, he’ll be the best. He has got everything.”
