Ruud on course for Barca return
Thursday, April 10, 2008
Ruud van Nistelrooy's return to action is on schedule after he began to run on the pitch at Real Madrid's training ground this week, only 20 days after having surgery.
The Dutch striker had an operation to repair the equivalent of tennis elbow in his ankle and was told by esteemed medic Doctor Van Dijk that he would be back for the final four games of the season.
Madrid take on Barcelona in the Bernabéu on May 7 and Van Nistelrooy was told that he would be fit in time to play against Osasuna four days before that match.
"I had the surgery because I was assured that I would be back for the Barça game," the former Manchester United goalscorer said.
Bernd Schuster intends to give Van Nistelrooy a few minutes against Osasuna to be sure that he is ready to face the Blaugrana the following weekend.
Madrid's doctors are delighted with the player's progress as he is complying with the schedule almost exactly as it was laid out by Doctor Van Dijk.
Van Nistelrooy's absence has been sorely noted by Madrid as they have not been as impressive without him, despite maintaing their lead at the top of the table.
